The internationally known Heard Museum, famed for its Native American collections, is one mile away on Central Avenue. The architecturally modern, Phoenix Art Museum is a stone’s throw past the Heard. The soaring edifice of the Barr Central Library is a half mile further down Central, its top floor framed by walls of glass two stories high. For sports fans, Bank One Ballpark, a huge new sports stadium with a retractable roof and a real grass playing field, and the America West Arena are three miles away in downtown Phoenix.
