Downtown Phoenix is the nucleus of what locals call "the valley" or "the Valley of the Sun". More than 20 outlying cities and towns connect to this hub through a system of interstates and all have something unique to offer the people who live here.
Downtown Phoenix encompasses a pretty large area from 16th Street in the east to 19th Avenue in the west, and from Jackson Street at the southern tip to McDowell Road at the north. Aside from the towering offices, city and government buildings, the downtown area is a hub of shopping, dining, entertainment, events, and nightlife.
Several popular historic districts are located here, as are numerous condo and loft projects with more scheduled to be built soon. Among the historic districts are, F.Q. Story, Roosevelt and East Evergreen, Oakland, Woodland and at the eastern edge, Garfield. Many of these neighborhoods feature green lawns and mature trees (features that are a bit of an anomaly here in the desert) and a wonderful collection of neighbors just waiting to meet you!
